Project Info:
The Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden, a 14 hectare filled land with artistic designed sculptures by Tony Cragg. In the park itself, each of these sculptures are presented in a similar language. “nothing will obstruct the view of each individual sculpture”, said by Tony Cragg.
Kotak Biru means “blue box” which represents the element of water that potrays the calm and order of the environment, which blends in together with the environment of Skulpturenpark Waldfrieden.
With this intention, the designed architecture shouldn’t be obstructing or to outstand any of the sculptures. To define what is art 6 architecture. The Kotak Biru is designed with the concept of creating an invisible building. The Invisible building is developed Into an underground experience exhibition gallery. This brings In a different perspective and experience towards nature with sculpture in the park.
The aim of the concept is to achieve a different environment experience as of normal galleries. To express the current experience, the architecture is express in an invisible design as not to obstruct or to outstand any of Its surrounding. While it brings together of what architecture can be, together with art sculptures around it.
In order to bring together the atmosphere of art and architecture. the external skin of the building is designed with a minimal exposure of concrete floor slab with a water pool next to it. On the other hand, the interior is designed with high ceiling while creating a great reflection of the water pool reflecting down towards the main exhibition space of the gallery.
The Kotak Biru Is an experiement of two way behavior. There is a saying, ‘when you respect others, naturally they will respect you in the same manner: Its the same theory of if you respect the site(art) as it is without obstructing it, the site will respect your building(architecture) which naturally reflects back. When the elements have the balance, that’s what makes a great art 6 architecture combination In the end.
