Project Info:

The main topic of this Studio, as lead by Prof. Ralf Niebergall, is to come with with a development of a lively mixed use inner city quarter with a special focus on the workspace of tomorrow (Kontorhaus of the 21st century). The focus of my Studio Design Proposal was thus divided into two main components; trying to achieve this lively city centre on a more macro/urban scale, and then on the smaller/architectural scale, focusing on the design of the office for workers of the 21st Century, especially the Gen Y/Millenial generation. The proposal leans towards respecting the urban fabric in scale, height, street front and historical axis, finding the balance between modern needs and maintaining genius loci. The massing is divided into 5 main buildings, and the negative spaces in between create multiple public spaces and circulation ingresses/egresses to “catch and draw in” the public. The main programme of office is also located right in the middle of the site, surrounded by supporting programmes of retail, hotel and residentials. The office design is driven by the concepts of connectivity and flexibility; a co-working environment in which a spiral of spatially-connected double height spaces are dedicated to a variety of micro-environments that cater to the multiple modes of work that workers of this generation demand for.
