Project info

A shelter is among the first things that man needs to maintain it’s existance in nature. The concept of this visitor centre was inspired by the finding of remains of housing structure 11,000 years ago when an archeology group carried out an excavation in Weimar. The sturcture left behind was partially submerged into the ground as the harsh environment changed over the years. Like a long house, the inside of the house is for man to have peace in a habitable environment, while the outside, where it confronts nature , it stands for fortified human existance. The Visitor Centre mirrors an excavation, elevated and cantilivered while partially submerging into the landscape. The simplicity of the form with louver facade blends in with nature while creating a subtle statement that enables a full view of the Island of Time Museum.
